Winter Park Library Receives People First Award

Though the weather was gloomy with scattered rain showers, spirits were high as city officials, board members, and library staff gathered at the Edyth Bush Theatre to celebrate Winter Park Library (FL) receiving Tech Logic’s People First Award. Melissa Schneider, the Executive Director, graciously accepted the award on behalf of the library.

Through our People First Award, Tech Logic celebrates libraries who have taken extraordinary action to benefit the people in their communities. Make sure to read more about Winter Park Library’s outstanding spaces and innovative programming in our previous blog post.

Tech Logic’s President, Gary Kirk, presented the award. During the award ceremony, Gary recalled witnessing the grand opening of the new Winter Park Library facility two years prior—the smiles, the cheers, and the pure amazement in the faces of the families and children who flowed through Winter Park Library’s doors. “It was clear to me that you hit the game-winning, walk-off home run for the people,” Gary said. He invited those in attendance to imagine what it was like in 1885, when nine women gathered together to create a lending library for the tiny town of Winter Park, which was less than five years old at that time. “Imagine how proud and literally blown away they would be by what you have done,” he said. “The dream, the planning, the execution, the results—it merits celebration and recognition for Winter Park Library staff.”

Upon receiving the award, Melissa recognized some special people in attendance. She thanked Winter Park Commissioners Sheila DeCiccio and Kris Cruzada, the library’s trustee Kristen Matt, David Odahowski, the President and CEO of the Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation, and Michelle del Valle, Winter Park’s Assistant City Manager. She also extended a heartfelt thanks to Tech Logic for acknowledging the library’s efforts. She said, “This recognition only strengthens our resolve to continue our mission of serving as a hub of knowledge, culture, and community for Winter Park.” She also expressed her appreciation to her dedicated team, library volunteers, community leaders, and community residents.

Overall, it was a joyous celebration with smiles all around. Congratulations again to Winter Park Library on their extraordinary, inspiring, and ongoing efforts to fulfill their mission and benefit the people in their community.
